The Living Church of the Living Christ

March 28, 2016

“That ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.” (Ephesians 1:18-23)

The resurrection is the Divine wtiness that Jesus is who He claimed to be- God the Son. The resurrection is the certification of our salvation. We are justified by the death of Christ and delivered from God’s wrath by His life. We are reconciled to God through the death of the Son of God. The living Son will certainly save those who are reconciled. The resurrection is the foundation of hope for all believers. The resurrection is the basis and exemplar of Christian sanctification. The resurrection is the categorical ratification of the entire Christian experience. The power of God displayed in the resurrection of Jesus is the same power that is at work in the believer’s daily life.

Ephesians 1 declares the relationship of the resurrected to Christ with His church. The risen Jesus was exalted. He was given rule over all. He was given headship of the church. The church is the precious treasure purchased by Jesus, established by Jesus and given to Him in His glory. The church is no mere human organization. The church is a heavenly institution found on earth.

Consider the following truths about the church taken from Matthew Henry’s and John MacArthur’s commentary on Hebrews 12:22-24:
•   The church is a heavenly society
•   The church is the residence of the living God
•   The church is celebrated in heaven
•   The church is companion with the angels
•   The church is joined in glory with Old Testament saints
•   The church is joint-heirs of heaven with Christ
•   The church is the possession of Christ
•   The church is recorded in heaven
•   The church is set free from the bondage of the law
•   The church is open to all who will come by the blood of Jesus
•   The church communes with God
•   The church is an assembly
•   The church is entered into a new covenant with God
•   The church is eternal
•   The church is purchased by the blood of Jesus
